Who We Are

Creative media with a purpose beyond the screen.

"We believe powerful stories can build understanding, amplify community voices, and help create a fairer, more resilient future."

Film and Media Development Initiative (FMDI) is an incorporated Nigerian non-profit organisation (CAMA 2020) focused on sustainable development and poverty alleviation. We prioritise vulnerable women and children affected by climate change, economic inequality, and social injustice across Southwestern Nigeria and West Africa.

Through participatory films, documentaries, masterclasses, and capacity-building workshops, we connect lived community experience with public awareness, civic dialogue, and systemic action.

STORIES THAT MOVE COMMUNITIES

Participatory documentary production on location with local youth and women.

How We Work

Communities are not just subjects. They are co-creators.

FMDI’s approach is grounded in deep listening, shared ownership, and practical knowledge. We empower communities to author their own narratives, strengthen local skills, and ensure impact endures well beyond the final frame.

  • Listen to communities and centre their lived experience.
  • Train local Media Champions to train peers and preserve institutional memory.
  • Establish Community Advisory Boards (CAB) for grassroots governance.
  • Formally transfer project technology and media assets to community cooperatives.

Our Approach to Impact

Good stories do more than raise awareness.

We work to ensure media translates into informed choices, stronger local capacity, and enduring community-led solutions.

Grow Capability Train local storytellers to produce media, share skills, and develop sustained economic opportunity.
Connect Partners Bridge conversations across grassroots groups, governmental ministries, and global donors.
Think Long-Term Incorporate asset transfer agreements and Community Advisory Boards into every project design.
